This week, I met with both of my supervisors, Mehnaz and Alex, separately. During my meeting with Mehnaz, we discussed my progress in NX and Plantsim. Regarding NX, I faced several issues that Mehnaz helped me resolve. However, during the time when I encountered these issues, I focused on coding the physical system to extract data from it and import it into Plantsim. After several failed trials and errors, I managed to combine the three stations and make them work as a unified system, as shown in the video below.

The data that I collected this time was different than the data that I recorded in my previous blog. This difference arises mainly because the data I collected previously was from each system separately, whereas this time it is from the system as a whole. Therefore, there might have been some discrepancies and delays.

  • Takes 12-14 seconds for a workpiece to pass from the distribution station.

  • Takes 9 to 11 seconds for the workpiece to pass through the pick and place station.

  • Takes 4 to 5 seconds for the lid to be placed on the workpiece.

  • Takes 5 to 7seconds for the workpiece to go through the sorting station

Moreover, the issues that were present in my previous blog regarding the lid placement have been resolved. I accomplished this by making changes to several components.

  • I added a time delay for when the lid is suctioned and picked up vertically before it begins moving horizontally.

  • I adjusted the 'workpiece is at lid processing part' sensor by tilting it towards the right and setting it at a 45-degree angle. This ensures that it only senses the workpiece when it is at the stopper, guaranteeing precise lid placement on top of the workpiece with minimal error percentage.

  • I repositioned the lid's slide to be exactly in the middle of the suction cup, ensuring that when it is picked up, it is lifted from the middle of the part.

During my discussion with Alex, he advised me to primarily concentrate on enhancing throughput in each iteration. My supervisors recommended at least 5 iterations. Additionally, Alex suggested testing the changes virtually rather than on the actual physical system. Overall, I had an informative discussion with him regarding Plant Simulation and its extensive applications.
